Famous for its ancient, pollarded beech trees Burnham Beeches has been owned and managed by the Corporation of London since 1880. On the doorstep of Slough the 500 acres of woodland and common land are protected by Act of Parliament as a public open space "for the enjoyment of Londoners" and are a unique example of ancient managed woodland. Guided walks are held throughout the year - booking required as they are very popular!

English Nature recently proposed Burnham Beeches as a European Special Area of Concervation (SAC), a designation which recognises internationally important habitats and species listed in the EC Habitats Directive and brings with it greater legal protection against damage or development.
